GYNAECOMASTIA
Description of the procedure and treatment:
Gynaecomastia is a disorder manifested by an overdevelopment of the male breast. It is common in adolescent boys and men over 50 years of age. Unless the underlying cause of the disease is hormonal disorder, gynaecomastia can be treated surgically. There are 3 types of gynaecomastia:
- gland gynaecomastia
- fat gynaecomastia
- mixed gynaecomastia
In most of the cases, the mixed type is diagnosed. Depending on the nature of the disorder, the following surgical procedures may be performed: subcutaneous mastectomy, liposuction, excess skin removal.
Postoperative Recommendations:
Patients should wear a chest compression belt for 3-4 months following the surgery. Resuming normal physical activity is possible after approx. 3 weeks from the surgery.
Work incapacity period:
Usually it is necessary to take 3 - 7 days off from work.
